Among them,\u00a0<strong>152 million are victims of child labour<\/strong>; almost half of them,\u00a0<strong>73 million, work in hazardous child labour<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color:#595855\" class=\"tadv-color\">In absolute terms, almost half of child labour (<strong>72.1 million<\/strong>) is to be found in\u00a0<strong>Africa<\/strong>;\u00a0<strong>62.1 million<\/strong>\u00a0in the<strong>\u00a0Asia and the Pacific<\/strong>;\u00a0<strong>10.7 million<\/strong>\u00a0in the\u00a0<strong>Americas<\/strong>;\u00a0<strong>1.2 million<\/strong>\u00a0in the\u00a0<strong>Arab States<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>5.5 million<\/strong>\u00a0in\u00a0<strong>Europe and Central Asia<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color:#595855\" class=\"tadv-color\">In terms of prevalence,\u00a0<strong>1 in 5 children<\/strong>\u00a0in\u00a0<strong>Africa\u00a0<\/strong>(<strong>19.6%<\/strong>) are in child labour, whilst prevalence in other regions is between 3% and 7%:\u00a0<strong>2.9%<\/strong>\u00a0in the\u00a0<strong>Arab States<\/strong>\u00a0(1 in 35 children);\u00a0<strong>4.1%<\/strong>\u00a0in\u00a0<strong>Europe and Central Asia<\/strong>\u00a0(1 in 25);\u00a0<strong>5.3%<\/strong>in the\u00a0<strong>Americas<\/strong>\u00a0(1 in 19) and\u00a0<strong>7.4%<\/strong>\u00a0in\u00a0<strong>Asia and the Pacific region<\/strong>\u00a0(1 in 14).<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color:#595855\" class=\"tadv-color\"><strong>Almost half of all 152 million<\/strong>\u00a0children victims of child labour\u00a0<strong>are aged 5-11 years<\/strong>.<br \/>42 million (28%) are 12-14 years old; and 37 million (24%) are 15-17 years old.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color:#595855\" class=\"tadv-color\"><strong>Hazardous child labour<\/strong>\u00a0is most prevalent among the\u00a0<strong>15-17 years old<\/strong>. Nevertheless up to a fourth of all hazardous child labour (19 million) is done by children less than 12 years old.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color:#595855\" class=\"tadv-color\">Among 152 million children in child labour,\u00a0<strong>88 million are boys and 64 million are girls<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color:#595855\" class=\"tadv-color\"><strong>58%<\/strong>\u00a0of all children in child labour and\u00a0<strong>62%\u00a0<\/strong>of all children in hazardous work\u00a0<strong>are boys<\/strong>. Boys appear to face a greater risk of child labour than girls, but this may also be a reflection of an under-reporting of girls\u2019 work, particularly in domestic child labour.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color:#595855\" class=\"tadv-color\">Child labour is concentrated primarily in\u00a0<strong>agriculture (71%)<\/strong>, which includes fishing, forestry, livestock herding and aquaculture, and comprises both subsistence and commercial farming;\u00a0<strong>17%<\/strong>\u00a0in\u00a0<strong>Services<\/strong>; and\u00a0<strong>12%<\/strong>\u00a0in the\u00a0<strong>Industrial sector<\/strong>, including mining.<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Worldwide 218 million children between 5 and 17 years are in employment.
